I chose to read over Planet Money Makes a T-shirt. I wanted to read it over because I never really looked at the aspect of what it takes to make the shirt. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only person who doesn’t think about it to. Come on, I know people who hardly think about what it takes to actually make the shirt that we wear and just look at it as a shirt when it takes a process to make it. Just think about the machinery that is used for the shirts the people who are help making. Also the pricing of the machines and employees wages when it comes to the t-shirt. There’s a lot of information to find out about all of this and I don’t mind finding out more information about this. One reason for the process of making planet t-shirt is the U.S cotton. There are other countries where you can get cotton from but planet t-shirts use U.S cotton. Also the U.s exports the most cotton more then everyone in the world. I feel like the video made a good point about the way the U.s makes the cotton now because, it has really changed and evolved over years. Instead of it being made by hand the cotton is being made by technology now. I feel like it was interesting to see how the machines make the cotton and the process and transporting it takes as explained in the article and video. For example it shows how the cotton is twisted by the machines and is made into yarn. Then after that it gets transported to a knitting machine then is made into fabric. Another great aspect that it gets across is that the people who are making the shirts have to go through. It shows how the people in small countries such as Bangladesh go through just to make the shirts we wear. It turns out the work conditions aren’t the best and people work hard long hours and only make such little wages. The people work there because for most it’s the only way to keep food on the table. I discovered a lot of information that I didn’t know about and saw what people had to go through over just something small as a shirt.
The podcast I chose to do was the WASPs. It was a good choice because right off the bat they started off with audio footage in the podcast. In the beginning the podcast immediately starts the podcast with Elizabeth Air Taylor. It’s her getting ready to fire up the airplane and getting it ready for takeoff. You can hear the engine starting and the dog in the background barking, so it really keeps the person who is listening intrigued right from the beginning.
Also I think the fact they had old clips from Word War two made it interested to it was a nice look back at history and the united states was at the time. For example the women back then had to get the jobs they didn’t really want the men to do so they can just fight and help in the war. I say this because you can hear the radio announcer talking about and saying so that footage they had really was helpful because it is like they had the proof.
Another piece of great footage they had were action ones. For example they had audio footage of the the training practice at Fort Bliss. The WASPs were training young upcoming men who were training to be in the war. So the fact that they had the audio footage of the planes in the air and the gunfire coming from it to. Also the use off adding the commentary to that is what put the icing on the cake because he was saying what was happening so the addition of that really helped.
Overall the audio footage helped tell the story better. Adding footage of the airplanes, hearing the sound of the bullets and the commentary and radio announcing. I felt like they made the listener really want to feel like they was there and the story was told better from it.

There are many techniques when doing audio recording. One technique is using handheld audio recorders to capture interviews and natural sound of high quality. Mostly video journalists tend to use this type of device. This type of audio recording is important because say if you are recording a band with a handheld recorder. The band music recorded will end up staying the same level; of audio it was recorded at so you don’t have to adjust the volume when listening to the recording.
Another way of recording audio is recording sound with a video camera that has a built in microphone. The built in microphones that comes with cameras, phones, and etc works good for picking up music from a loudspeaker. Although the sound of a mic on a built in camera isn’t that good they are primarily designed to pick up sound around the camera. Also another technique of recording audio is doing it with a hybrid camera. A hybrid camera doesn’t offer a choice to manage the sound. The hybrids relegate the sound to an automatic gain control which is a feature that is built in with the camera. That’s effective because you don’t have to worry about making sure the sound is okay if it is automatically done for you.
The Lavalier microphone is a good way of recording audio. Its’s a small mic used for video recording. This type of mic is effective with interviews because it picks up the voice of the subject while blending in some environmental sounds. Another technique is using a shotgun mic. It’s an unidirectional mic that collects sound patterns. For example the shotgun mic will record whats directly in front of it but also picks up the sound more garbled sounds of people in the same path of the speaker.
In chapter 5 field producing informs the reader what producers job is to do and what field producing is. The main job description as a producer is they cover a lot of ground in public radio. Producers do the technical job such as mix pieces for broadcasts and book studio time. Jane Greenhalgh also had a good description what being a producer is and what you have to do as one. She states that as a field produces you do a lot of research and book interviews. As a producer you may have to go oh and gather up sound and help get the story together. She mentions how the field producer is really had to take part in every step except the host or reporter who writes the piece and voice it.
Margaret role points out how she felt as a field producer and what she does. She explains that she didn’t go on air because it was people who were better at it then her. She had a eye for spotting talent so she wanted to work with people and help them get better at what they did. she describes as a producer even though she’s not on air field producers takes a lot of pride in authorship. Overall Maraget Low Smith talks about the emotional side of field producing.
Sarah Beyer also has good facts that go along with being a field producer. To be a field producer she mentions about that it requires good organization skills to a field producer. She gets back to the basics and explains it’s not really just the creative process of reporting a piece that you do. Her intake on there job as being like a parent. They have to know all the practical stuff of navigating in an unknown city. They have to be efficient as possible in a place they may not even really know but that is what comes with the job description.
overall these are facts and description on what being a field producer is all about. It’s more then just the creative process there’s the little and practical things that you have to keep tabs on in order to do the job. Also they take a lot of pride in authorship even though they aren’t on air or hosting they want credit for the area they work in. The last example of how they record and gather up sound is important because it is what helps and is not an easy job to do. Overall these are the Vidal points of being a good producer and what there job is like.
When taking a photograph there are many important factors to make sure you have the right picture.
1. Seeing while photographing – the first is seeing because when a photographer takes pictures in different scenes there are much greater visual elements. Also you have to put the camera at the right place and time to make an effective photograph image out of any of these subjects.
2. Pictures have edges – the hard ages and their height and width proportions have a strong effect. Framing up pictures is a powerful way to exclude or include. The edge of the frame can crop into or out.
3. Time- capturing the leak of action often produces photographs that are frozen moments of time. There’s a decisive moment for pressing the button that sums up a situating or simply gives it a new design.
4. Color – When shooting in black and white you have to adjust the way colors translate into monochrome. Now digital photographers always capture in color and convert the photo to grays using photoshop or photoshop elements.
5. View finder- the view finder is a magic drawing pad on which the world moves as you point the camera. This includes cropping out something.
6. Using foregrounds and backgrounds- To shoot while using foregrounds you will be forced to shoot from somewhere distant even with the lens zoomed to its longest setting and the key elements to Frame a distant subject. While taking a photograph always make sure your at a high viewpoint so you can fill up the background.
7. Emphasis- when you decide a main element you can improve the structure on your shot by calling in a range of long established visual devices used in picture composition. To use emphasis you should chose items that stand out relative to its surroundings.
8. Contrasting with surroundings- making your main element the lightest or darkest tone, or the only item of a particular color included in the picture. This helps emphasize an interesting shape in a good way and sets the mood.

After reading Kobre chapter 11 i learned multiple interesting points and information about photo stories and how to do it. for example is they explains what the difference is between a collection of a lot of photos from a photo story. According to the article it states that a photo story always has a theme of pictures that go along with the story that is trying to be told through the pictures. Judging by the pictures you should be able to identify the central point the story is showing you.
Also another thing I learned from the article was Topical Trends. In the article it mentions that a trend story identifies as a gradual but demonstrable real change that might include shifts in the public buying references. A trend is not something that just happens in a day it occurs gradually over a period of time. Also a topical book or movie might stimulate a photographer’s interest to investigate the subject with his or her photo.
A newspeg is another interesting fact I learned in the article. In the article it states that if you are an employee or a freelancer an editor is more likely to use your picture story if you have a newspeg. According to the article a newspeg tells the reader why the story is being seen now instead of six moths ago or six months into the future. Also in the article the main idea is to tie your story into a font page news item then your story will lift off from there immediately without the wait .
overall this chapter has taught me three important facts when you are doing a photo story. You have to have a theme for it because if you don’t it would just be a collection of pictures gathered. Furthermore topical trends were important because they just don.t develop in a day it takes time. And finally a newspeg which editors tend to look for and how you can tie your story to a front page and watch it take off immediately. As a result this what I learned from chapter eleven.OLDER POSTSWORDPRESS.COM.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.
Why do this?
The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.
To help you get started, here are a few questions:
You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.
Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.
When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
